Transitioning from my Marine Corps background to a role in change management has required a significant shift in my communication style and approach. The direct and no-nonsense demeanor I honed in the military was highly effective in certain contexts. However, I quickly realized that the corporate world often favors a more nuanced and collaborative approach. Recognizing the need for adaptation was a commendable first step for me. It showed my willingness to grow and my understanding that different environments necessitate different strategies.

In my role in leading change management, I focus on guiding and preparing individuals, teams, and organizations to adopt change in order to drive organizational success and outcomes. This often involves a delicate balance of leadership and empathy, as change can be a source of anxiety for many. I have found that a softer approach can help in easing these transitions, making the process less intimidating and more inclusive. It allows for open communication and feedback, which are essential for addressing concerns and resistance to change.

Building rapport and trust with my team members has also become more feasible with a gentler approach. It encourages participation and collaboration, allowing for a more diverse range of ideas and solutions to emerge. This can lead to more effective and sustainable changes, as buy-in from the team is crucial for successful implementation. Moreover, a softer approach can contribute to a positive work culture, where employees feel valued and heard, further enhancing productivity and job satisfaction.

The skills and discipline from my Marine Corps experience are invaluable, and when combined with a more adaptable communication style, they make for a powerful change management strategy. It's about finding the right balance and applying the strengths of my military training in a way that resonates within the new context. With continuous learning and adjustment, I can lead change effectively while creating a supportive environment for my colleagues. The journey from a rigid to a more flexible approach is a testament to my leadership and commitment to personal and professional growth. By embracing this learning curve, I have found that my experiences uniquely position me to excel in managing and leading change.
